Meike Driessen
Meike Driessen (b. 2000) is beeldend kunstenaar en fotograaf. In 2023 studeerde ze af van St Joost School of Art & Design.
Erkenning is de belangrijkste uitwisseling tussen mensen; iedereen wil gezien worden. Om gezien te worden moet je laten zien. Meike benaderd kunst en zelfexpressie als noodzakelijke vorm van zingeving.
In haar werkt vormt Meike een utopie waarin ieder mens onvoorwaardelijk mag bestaan. In deze utopie zijn beelden een taal om te voelen, te reflecteren en mee te communiceren. Ze maakt ruimte voor vragen zonder antwoord, uitspraken zonder directe betekenis, vormen zonder identiteit. De installaties die hieruit ontstaan maken ruimte voor contemplatie: een ruimte waarin de kijker mag dwalen, voelen en iets van zichzelf mag terugvinden.
Meike houdt zich in haar onderzoek bezig met kwetsbaarheid, zelfexpressie, mentaal welzijn, introspectie, eenzaamheid, gemeenschap en hoop. Ze benadert deze thema’s vanuit een persoonlijke gevoeligheid, met oog voor hun maatschappelijke urgentie.

Recognition is the most important exchange between humans; everyone wants to be seen. In order to be seen, you have to show yourself. Meike approaches art and self-expression as a necessary way to form a meaningful life.
In her works, Meike forms a utopia in which every human being is allowed to take up space and exist unconditionally. In this utopia, imagery becomes an ambiguous language in which to feel, reflect and communicate. She creates space for questions without answers, statements without a direct meaning, forms without identity. The resulting installations make space for contemplation: a space in which the viewer is allowed to wander, feel and find parts of themselves.
In her research, Meike explores vulnerability, self-expression, mental well-being, introspection, loneliness, community and hope. She approaches these themes from a personal sensitivity, with an eye for their social urgency.
