Tijdens dit themagesprek neemt cultureel geograaf Bouke van Gorp je mee in de wereld van het landschap. Wat ís landschap eigenlijk precies? Hoe kunnen we een landschap ‘lezen’ en zo antwoorden vinden op vragen over de historie, maar ook over het huidige gebruik? En hoe wordt landschap verbeeld in de kunst en in het dagelijks leven van mensen?

Bouke van Gorp is cultureel geograaf met een brede interesse in vraagstukken rondom representatie, toerisme, erfgoed en landschap.

De laatste jaren richt haar onderzoek zich ook op veldwerk als onderwijsvorm, met speciale aandacht voor inclusiviteit. Veldwerk wordt vaak gezien als een kernmethode in de geografie: studenten leren buiten, op basis van hun ervaringen, zien hoe theorie zich tot de praktijk verhoudt en ervaren vraagstukken met eigen ogen. Daarom is het belangrijk dat alle studenten kunnen deelnemen en ervan leren. Écht het landschap in dus.

Panel Discussion ‘What is Landscape?’

In this discussion, cultural geographer Bouke van Gorp takes you into the world of landscape. What exactly is a landscape? How can we ‘read’ it to uncover answers about its history, but also about its present-day use? And how is landscape represented in art and in people’s daily lives?

Bouke van Gorp is a cultural geographer with a broad interest in issues related to representation, tourism, heritage, and landscape.

In recent years, her research has also focused on fieldwork as a form of education, with a special emphasis on inclusivity. Fieldwork is often considered a core method in geography: it allows students to learn outdoors, gain experience-based insights, connect theory to practice, and observe real-world issues firsthand. That is why it is essential that all students can participate and benefit from it. In other words: truly stepping into the landscape.
